Pre-season shopping?

Today I have a topic for the SERIOUS fashionista- the one who likes to be ahead of the trends, hates buying last season's clothes and prefers to be unique.

Lately, I have been noticing an influx of new websites that offer customers the chance to order pre-season items before they hit stores. First came online shopping for current season clothes, then came discount websites where you could buy previous season items (www.theoutnet.com) and others where they have sales for a few days of items that were overstocked in stores or that needed a push to be sold and now websites are popping up with pre-season items and a chance to buy directly from designer's trunk shows. It's genius- why didn't I think of it?!

I've recently come across www.bonfaire.com and www.modaoperandi.com So how does it work? It's basically online trunk shows for consumers, rather than industry buyers. Each collection is available to order for up to a week where you can place your order. You pay a 50% deposit when you order and the remaining 50% when your items are ready to be shipped to you. They are usually shipped before the next season starts (for example, December - April for Spring/Summer 2013 depending on the brand). If you don't like your items, you can return them for credit or a full refund. The beauty of this is that you get items before anyone else and sometimes, items that are never ordered by the buyers so you'll own a truly unique piece.

Here are a few of my favourite picks for Spring/Summer 2013 (if the links don't work, you have to sign up to be a member first):

What do you think? Isn't this genius?
